This study showed that the inhibition of histamine release from mast cells is mediated by calcium and bicarbonate ions in Avène Thermal Spring Water.
Mast cells were brought into contact with solutions of different concentrations of elements (calcium, chlorine, bicarbonate, sulphate) then were stimulated by substance P inducing the production of histamine. The histamine released was quantified.
